I traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, for my friend’s funeral. It was a weekend of highs and lows, laughter and tears, and much needed time with childhood friends. The continued reminder of how finite life can be too much of my thoughts. As I returned, I felt tired, sad, and even depressed at times. I called a client of mine for some motivation to get back on the bike and clear my head.
I road seven miles, and it felt great. They were more challenging than last week, but I felt great after the ride. That is when it hit me. I need to lean into my systems. I have multiple systems that operate under my overarching GoCycle Goal Setting system. I do believe in Locke and Latham’s Theory of clear goals. With clear goals, I am more motivated and have targets to aim for. For many years of my life, I tried to find my thing. I never thought it would be goal setting. As I have said before, I love setting and achieving goals. More than ever, I love setting and achieving goals with others.
So, if you are in a stall pattern, put some pen to paper. Set some weekly goals. Where do you want to be at the end of next week? After you gain some traction, set some monthly goals. Then the sweet spot for me is 45-day cycles. I am happy to report I am on the bike, following the food plan, using my daily planning system, and being of service to others. Although the pain of losing a friend comes and goes, I continue to lean into my systems to work through this season of life.
