Season of Gratitude

Another Blog about being grateful on Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for so many people in my life. My daughter wrote me little notes and put them in a jar she made…what more do I need. It reminds me of the little things we do for others that we might not realize how impactful they are. When I think about the people in my life, it really is about the little things. Throughout our lives, they plant little acts of kindness that resonate over time. It is interesting how long it takes to build trust and love.

As I sit here and create the list of people I love and trust, it is massive. At times, I take all the wonderful, amazing people in my life for granted. Today’s reflections of others reminded me that I need to step back. I need to appreciate all the minor interactions I have with others throughout the day.

I am currently reading Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones. This breakthrough book from James Clear is the most comprehensive guide on changing your habits and getting 1% better every day. If I get better at recognizing the love and kindness of others by 1% a day, that would be life-changing. With all the distractions and toxic interactions in the news (and social media), I can choose to see the good. Even if it is only 1% more recognition a day, I will feel better when my head hits the pillow at night.

I did not set a goal for this. It came from taking the time to actually reflect on what I am grateful (thankful) for during the Thanksgiving season. Not all changes are through a goal-setting system, and they happen when I am ready to receive them. If our paths have crossed in the past, thank you for being you. I might not have spoken all the loving qualities you have, but I see them. I hope next time we see each other, I am brave enough to tell you.
